Minecraft movie gets a new writer/director

Numerous game-to-movie projects seem to get caught up in development hell, and Minecraft is no different. The movie has been caught in stop/start cycles multiple times, but as of today, things are moving forward once again.

Peter Sollett has been announced as the new writer/director for the film, following the departures of both Shawn Levy and Rob McElhenney. Sollett's previous notable works include “Freeheld,” “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” and “Raising Victor Vargas.”

Today I learned there’s a Minecraft movie in the works...and Rob McElhenney of all people had been involved?! Weird

I would really have liked to have seen what Rob McElhenney wouldn't brought to the project. Oh well.

When the odds are a video-game-based-movie being good are as low as they are, it's unproductive to fret over details at this point.
