Nintendo says the Koopalings aren't Bowser's kids, but Bowser Jr. is

Ever wonder just how Bowser. Jr. and the Koopalings are related? In an interview with Nintendo Life, Nintendo's Akira Otani is asked that very question. While the answer might not be as detailed as we would hope, at least we get some kind of info.

As far as the Mario & Luigi series goes, it really is in Paper Jam that the Koopalings became more featured. The character setting for Koopalings is that they aren’t Bowser’s children, they just work for him! That’s the same for Bowser Jr.’s Journey, but the Koopalings have to take care of Bowser Jr. because he’s the boss’ kid.

This is why I hate retconning, and honestly, to hell with Miyamoto for this kind of nonsense.

I love the guy, and he made some of the best games ever long ago, but the older he gets, the dumber his ideas/thoughts seem to be, sorry to say.

Yeah, the Koopalings are Bowser's kids. And Bowser Jr., IMO, has always been annoying. He's the Scrappy Doo of the Mario universe.

Yeah retroactively changed this. The koopalings are Bowsers children in Super Mario World and SMB3.

Miyamoto made the statement a few years ago that they are not Bowsers kids and that we do not know who their mother is.

Our current story is that the seven Koopalings are not Bowser's children. Bowser's only child is Bowser Jr., and we do not know who the mother is.

They also got confused with Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr at one point.

"we do not know who the mother is."

So, who broke the news to Miyamoto that he was the mother?

*Edit - LOL never mind I was thinking of Jr.!

In my heart, I still believe they are his kids. I still remember when Miyamoto broke the news about it after all those years thinking they were his kids.

There goes my theory about Bowser's wild love life.

I misread this to mean they were Bowser Jr's children, and I got very concerned.

And yet he frequently treats them like his own children...

They're Wart and Birdo's kids.

Of course Bowser would deny they are his progeny, he doesn't want to pay maintenance. ;)

They've said this before. do people just forget these things?

I can agree to this!

The Scrappy Doo comparison falls flat when you realize that everyone in Scooby-Doo was lame. That and the *fact* that Jr.'s a great character.

Yeah, sure... great... lame copycat design, generic name, annoying voice, appears in games like Galaxy for no particular reason and provides nothing of value... so great... forget Scrappy-Doo, he's more like Jar Jar Binks... or maybe that Rose girl... he's glorified filler...

Sorry man, facts don't work like that. What you're thinking of, are opinions.

Facts are objective. These things are not objective. They are subjective, as all opinions are.

For example, there ARE people who exist, who like Scrappy Doo. Just like some people like Bowser Jr.

But by and large, the rest of the Scooby Doo cast are pretty beloved by lots of people, and Scrappy is not, myself included.

So the comparison does not actually fall flat. You just disagree with it. Cheers!

My headcanon is that they're his illegitimate children that he had with the help.

He can't officially acknowledge their status outwardly for fear of the issues that might cause with the Koopa line of succession but he loves them just the same.

My headcanon is that, his ego being as big as it is, Bowser can't accept sharing any parentage with someone else. Whether it's the help or not.

Bowser Jr. is different, since the shenanigans involving the Double Cherry and Super Crown meant that he accidentally became both Bowser Jr's father and mother.

I always thought that the koopalings were always related to Bowser in some fashion.
