It's all in the numbers

No matter what Nintendo says, analysts and industry insiders claim that some sort of revamp for the Switch is on the way. The latest to agree with that sentiment is David Gibson, chief investment adviser at Japan-based equity research provider Astris Advisory.

Mr. Gibson pointed to figure of 16.95 million Switch units mentioned in Nintendo's fiscal report for the year. Gibson says that's the number that arrived at retailers, which looks small when compared to the number of units bought by consumers. It's this difference that might indicate Nintendo's work on a revamp.

“The Switch’s sales were probably larger at retail stores than Nintendo’s shipment from its factories, and this suggests Nintendo is encouraging retail to reduce inventory ahead of new models.”
