The closure of Telltale was a shock to the industry and fans alike. Very few people saw the shuttering coming, and that goes for people within the studio's walls. Sadly, the years of mismanagement just couldn't be overcome, no matter how hard people tried.

In an interview with USGamer, The Walking Dead: The Final Season's creative director Kent Mudle said that Telltale was actually fixing a lot of the issues that killed it, but by the time the fixes came along, it was simply too late.

"The real tragedy of Telltale is it was turning around at the end. The bad air of Telltale is defined by overbearing management making everything sort of homogenized. There were several projects in development that were all about to be brand-new things that the creators really believed in. Telltale was good at the end. That's the most tragic thing."
