Detective Pikachu pulls in estimated $170+ million in its debut weekend, becomes biggest opening for a video game movie

A new record!

Detective Pikachu's weekend box office has come in, and it's a record-breaker. The title has pulled in an estimated $170+ million worldwide, which is enough to grab it the record for the biggest opening weekend for a video game movie. With $58 million coming from the domestic side, that also means the movie holds a record for the biggest game movie opening in the U.S. specifically.

Thanks to ThatWaluigiDude for the heads up!

That's so great to hear, a kind hearted movie that isn't all about violence or sex is doing well. That's just what this world needs right now.
