Previously, Nintendo had sued a Japanese company by the name of MariCar. For those that do not know, MariCar is a service that allowed its customers to drive around the streets of Japan in Mario Kart-themed karts. The problem is that they do not have official permission from Nintendo to use their characters. As such, Nintendo sued them for and won the case.

Despite having to pay approximately $89,000 as a result of losing the case, MariCar has still continued to run their business as usual. Only a few days later, Nintendo had filed another lawsuit against the company. Nintendo won the case once again. Following the hearing, Nintendo issued a statement against MariCar:

We will continue to take necessary measures against infringements of intellectual property including our brand in order to protect our valuable intellectual property that we have built up over the years.
