But when...and how?!

Same answer as usual. "We know you want it, but we have nothing to announce"

They are sitting on a gold mine, why don't they do something about it?

They tried. Virtual Console/3D Classics bombed in Japan.: https://gonintendo.com/stories/335095-sega-ages-series-selling-better-than-expected-in-na-eu-but-sales

They might be selling better in the west, but Nintendo, SEGA, etc. don't want to rerelease old games if they just bomb in Japan that cancel out any gains from the west or worst put the re-releases selling in the red instead of black.

Then explain how the famicom classic performed better? It's probably due to the better emulation.

That, better marketing (the Virtual Console hardly was marketed even in the Wii era), and Japan appreciated the nostalgia.

During the Wii U/Miiverse era, many a Virtual Console and 3D Classics board in Japan were hardly ever posted in outside popular ones like Mario, Pokemon, etc.

better marketing and the fact that 30 games were all in one place instead of 500 yen per piece

It's called VIRTUAL CONSOLE, baby! You know, same shit you had last time.

I get to copy and paste this: They tried. Virtual Console/3D Classics bombed in Japan.: https://gonintendo.com/stories/335095-sega-ages-series-selling-better-than-expected-in-na-eu-but-sales

And still would do better than the Switch online "service".

Investors: "We want to play your older games."

Nintendo: "That's why we offer the same handful of NES games you've been able to download since 2006. You're welcome."

It’s just completely baffling that all they have classics wise on Switch is NES Online over 2 years into the Switch’s life. They had a killer thing going with Virtual Console- that should have carried on exactly where it left off on Wii with Wii U and carried on with Switch with its library mostly intact, with a subscription service to play classic games a la carte by now. Nobody has a back catalogue like Nintendo’s and they’re doing virtually nothing with it.

All Nintendo has to do is release a console that only plays their legacy content and they make it so that more games can come for it. Instant easy money.
