The Sonic movie's executive producer comments on the reveal backlash, says fans will be pleased with the redesign

Let's hope he doesn't come to regret saying this

Right from the first teaser poster for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, fans were feeling uncomfortable. Something didn't seem right with Sonic's design, and things only became worse as we saw more and more of the character. When the first trailer it, it caused a huge wave of anger and disbelief across the internet. That negative reaction was quick to hit the team working on the film, including executive producer Tim Miller.

In an interview with Variety, Mr. Miller discusses the reaction from fans, and how he actually agreed with them.

“Look, I was with fans and so was Jeff. When the s–t hit the fan, I went over there and said, “The most important thing to do, man, is say, ‘I f–ked up.’ He’d already sent a tweet out an hour before I got there. He’s a good man. It was exactly the right way to handle that. The fans have a voice in this too. There’s a right way to listen.”

The question is, has Miller seen the redesign? Turns out he has...

“in fact I have. And I think the fans will be pleased.”

If they thought the original idea was good enough to put out there I dont think we can trust this guy, but what do I know I've never made a movie of my own.

Let's see. They might play it safe and just go with his classic design.

The look of Sonic is just one of 2 issues I have with this movies existence... They may be ale to fix that, but they will never be able to fix the other issue I have... I'll be more than happy to eat my words when this comes out and fans/critics come out and say it good... but I doubt that will ever happen...

The way Sonic looks in this wasn’t the first thing that jumped out at me, honestly. It’s like if someone made a poop sundae with sprinkles on top and everyone got mad it wasn’t a cherry instead. It’s still not gonna taste very good.

This is the same Tim Miller who lobbed accusations at detractors of Terminator: Dark Fate. I wonder why it's okay to say "This looks bad" for one movie, but not for the other.

"I think the fans will be pleased."

Mr. Miller doesn't know the Sonic fanbase well enough. One of the heads of Big Red Button said something very similar and was bombarded with death threats that he had to step down from the project to pull himself back together.

The Sonic fandom is infamous for being almost impossible to please. They are so splintered that there isn't any one thing that they'll all be united in support of. I think a majority of them don't even want this movie to exist. The only way to please them is the announcement of this movie's cancellation.

Me, I don't mind if this movie exists or not. I'll go watch it anyway, most likely. But to say you'll please the fans is to court PR suicide.

Sonic needs to just die and fans need to get over it.

It was a great character but with persistent bad game designs.

Run it over, bake it in clay... do whatever with it but just let it go
