RUMOR - Dataminer shares info on another Switch revamp separate from the Switch Lite

Switch Lite is real, so on to more Switch redesign rumors

The Switch Lite is no longer a rumor, so what do we do now? We talk about rumors of a more powerful Switch, of course! Mike Heskin, a well-known hacker and dataminer, has shared a batch of rumored information on yet another Switch hardware revamp, which is based on recent firmware updates to the current Switch. Check out the summary of details below.

- Since firmware 5.0, there has been support for three hardware lines, one with the original Tegra 210 and two for the new Tegra 214 (Mariko)
- Those two hardware lines are Switch Lite and Switch "New".
- The original Switch has 4GB of RAM and 6GB for the devkit.
- The new models have support for both 4GB and 8GB of RAM.
- Both Switch Lite and "New" use LPDDR4X DRAM which grants a small battery boost due to lower voltages.
- Switch Lite has a smaller screen and non-detachable controllers while "New" Switch should have the exact same form factor.
- The GPU in the "New" Switch is clocked at higher values than Switch Lite, potentially giving a modest performance boost.
- Larger than 32GB memory is possible in the "New" units.
- Two models have been found in the firmware (codenames "Iowa" and "Calcio")
- it is speculated that one will have more internal storage.
- There's no evidence of an actual "Pro" version, at least not in the sense that it would be based off of the Tegra X2 or have massive performance and/or memory improvements

This was posted months ago when the firmware 5.0 launched. Why repeat it now??

I would say this particular rumour mill must have been a hit for website engagement, because “now what?” seems to be a common sentiment on the Ninty media sites this afternoon haha

Wasn’t this just the refresh to the hardware chipset to fix a hardware vulnerability?

And anywho, hardware refreshes are common. Doesn’t mean more powerful hardware. The Wii went through several refreshes.

I would prefer we don't get a Pro version and just wait for next console. Just give me around 2 more enjoyable years with the Switch I have.

Now THAT would be the best thing. I agree very so. But damn... OK, I can see a Switch pro, but the Switch 2 should really be a big step. Or give us the Nitendo Change!

I wouldn't mind a Pro version as long as the benefits work for practically any game (PS4 Pro, X1X) and its not just for like... 2 games (New 3DS)

Anyone remember this quote from the WSJ article?

You would be wrong to think the enhanced version is similar to what Sony did with PS4 Pro and the other is just a cheap alternative that looks very similar to some past hand-held machines, say, Sony’s PlayStation Vita,” one person who has used the new devices said. The Switch is a hybrid device that can be played either as a hand-held unit or connected to a larger screen.

The Switch Lite is exactly the opposite of what this said it would be. How can the WSJ still be trusted for what it said that the Switch Pro would be?
