Splatoon 2 has been filled with all sorts of silly Splatfests for fans to take on. There were battles about which food was better, what superpower you'd rather have, and more. Then when we get to the final Splatfest, it took on a pretty serious Splatocalypse theme! In an interview with Famitsu (translated by NintendoEverything), producer Hisashi Nogami reveals why the team took on this tone for the final Splatfest.

It seems like a lot of people are like, “Wow, why so serious all of a sudden?” (laughs) We’ve always messed around a lot in this game, so we thought why not go all serious at the end. ...Given it’s so different I was a little concerned about how it would be received, but we used the theme of ‘Love vs. Money’ before and the players were nice enough take it seriously. I think that these contests that buck the trends are especially interesting. Since this is the last fest, I thought it would be nice to feature something that deals with much larger scale issues.
