The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening wins 'Best Switch Game' at the Gamescom 2019 awards

Well deserved win

We went through the various nominees for various categories at the Gamescom 2019 awards, and now we know at least one of the winners. It has been confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has taken the award for 'Best Switch Game' at the Gamescom 2019 Awards. We haven't had the chance to play the final version, but I think it's definitely a safe pick for the winner!

I don't really think it deserves it considering it's just a near one to one remake of the original game. Yeah, it's a fantastic game, and of course I'm looking forward to it, but it's nothing new. I'd feel different if it was a total reimagining of the original like Metroid Zero Mission or the remake of Resident Evil 2.

The fact that Link's Awakening a GB remake won over Luigi's Mansion 3 a brand new fantastic looking game is a total joke..

Dont get me wrong Im getting both for sure but come on LM3 looks like GOTY material (though its gonna be tough competing with Three Houses IMO).

WTF, such a bland remake (still completely grid based enviroments) wins over Three Houses or Luigi's Mansion 3.
Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Link's Awakening remake as that's a Zelda I still have to play but so little work put in it.

Well Three Houses isn't at the show because it's already out. So obviously it isn't even eligible.

So just because it’s not an original it shouldn’t win? It was a stellar game then and seems like a stellar one now. Improved visuals and a few QOL adjustments seems to put it right where it needs to be in the eyes of the voters, who I assumed played the other games it’s contending with. Some of those games none of you have played yet. Even if it’s just their opinion, you should reserve yours until you’ve played the other games. Can’t take you lot seriously when you just complain only because you can.

I agree. I think this says a lot about the original game and what a timeless classic it is. It's definitely one of my most hyped games right now.

I think it says more about the media hyping anything Zelda related. I love Zelda but come on not EVERY Zelda game is as good as people make it out to be. Nintendo could make The Legend of Zelda: Link's bowel movement. People would say "OMG so amazing its the best Zelda game yet!"

Idk maybe Im jaded as Im a fan of other Nintendo franchises so to see every Zelda game every year get such high praise while others dont just rubs me the wrong way.

Outside of visiting GoNintendo every once in a while, I don't really follow the gaming media so I don't know if they're hyping it or not, I just talk for myself. I don't think EVERY Zelda game is that great, some of them definitely aren't. I didn't even buy Tri-Force Heroes, for example. But overall, Zelda games are really good and most Nintendo fans love them. I know what it feels when things you enjoy don't get as much attention as you think they deserve, but to me, this comment makes you sound like you have something against the Zelda franchise just because it's popular.

I'm just very excited about Link's Awakening because I love the original and the remake looks great. I'd be just as hyped if it was a similar-quality remake of another old game that I love, like Super Mario RPG or Donkey Kong Country.

How is this hyping up “anything Zelda”? This is about a specific game in the series....one that tonnes of people played, and majority agrees that it’s one of the best in the series. I think you are jaded. Look at the title for what it is and judge it that way instead of having a preconceived bias because of the name. No love loss, I mean everything I said with all the love in the world.

How can they award a game that is not even out yet?

Yeah, I don't think games that haven't released yet should be eligible. You can already see in the comments that people are questioning it and that's because no one has played it. It makes no sense to do that.

Is that the whole point of “awards” at Gamescom or E3? It’s awards to games not yet released simply to drum up hype.
