Switch firmware update 9.0.0 finally makes use of the light-up ring around the Home button

I'm blue!

Today's the day, boys and girls. It only took Nintendo nearly 3 years to make it happen, but it's here! The Home button on your Joy-Con and Switch Pro Controller will now light up blue, thanks to the Switch firmware update 9.0.0. This is because of the new 'Alarm Notifications" feature that was part of the update.

Alarm Notifications have been added to System Settings > Notifications.

- You can check or delete pre-set alarms.
- Alarms can be set up only within supported software (to be added at a later time).
- A controller firmware update may be required to use this feature.

You might need to do the separate Joy-Con/Pro Controller update in order to get this feature to work, but the end result will be a lovely blue light for your alarms!

I've lit up both the pro controller and joy con lights through my PC, and they both look really nice. Good to see they're getting a use. My guess is that whatever health and fitness app comes with the strange springy hoop will allow you to set alarms.

How can the controllers light up if the light bulbs are not inside the controllers?

...they already are,

...I didn't even realize there was a light there....

It’s like we’re back in the Wii days all over again! I’m excited to see these notifications in the wild.

I remember when Nintendo did an update for the Wii U and made the stand-by light turn orange. I was amazed that it could do that. Now I see this and I wonder why I didn't see that ring before. (Or maybe I did, and didn't really think about it.)

They built a light in their controllers that 99% of us didn't know existed and it took this long to do something with it? Really weird. Really, really weird.

Freaking finally.
For your information, this LED is used by Steam when you plug your Pro Controller on a PC. It looks really cool imo and is exactly what this controller needed in terms of design to look that much more awesome.

And if I understand this correctly, it's now doable but no actual software uses it so far ? XD Nintendo being Nintendo.
