Oh man, talk about a tear-jerking speech. Masahiro Sakurai took home a ton of awards for Smash Bros. Ultimate at the Japan Game Awards 2019. During one of his speeches, Sakurai shared a sentimental tidbit about his work on the game. The translation below comes courtesy of PushDustIn.
I'm sorry for bringing up this personal story at a time like this...but making Smash Bros on the Switch was the last mission the late Satoru Iwata gave to me....I've put my all into the game, and with more DLC I will continue to work hard.
Sakurai always works himself to no end with every Smash Bros. game, but when you know Iwata's words were fueling him with Smash Bros. Ultimate, you can see why the game is the biggest and best the franchise has ever seen.
