Square-Enix considers Dragon Quest XI S a remake, not a port
Not a port, damnit!
This week's issue of Famitsu has a feature with numerous developers who worked on Dragon Quest XI S, the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI. According to the team, right off the bat, they decided not to do a straight port of Dragon Quest XI, and instead add in some new features and content. These tweaks came from fan feedback received from the 3DS and PS4 versions of Dragon Quest XI.
All these changes and adjustments lead to Square-Enix considering Dragon Quest XI S a remake, rather than a port. While I'm sure most fans would take issue with using the term 'remake,' I think we can all agree that there's enough updated and new content here that it shouldn't be considered a simple port.
