Ed Boon reveals Mortal Kombat 11 guest DLC characters he wanted, but couldn't get

Someone's a fan of Keanu

Mortal Kombat 11 has its fair share of guest DLC characters that you wouldn't normally expect to pop up in the series, but it turns out series co-creator Ed Boon had even more pie-in-the-sky characters he wanted to include. In an interview with Meu, Boon reveals that he would have liked to have someone from the Street Fighter series, John Wick, and Neo from the Matrix. I guess they'll have to wait until Mortal Kombat 12!

There's nothing worse then a good developer not getting what they want cause of licensing.

Street Fighter will just never happen. I don't see Capcom ever wanting their characters to get mutilated in Mortal Kombat, which was also their biggest rival in the 90s western market.

It's also hard to imagine a Street Fighter character looking like they fit in with the realistic visual style of MK. We already saw how bad that looks in the Street Fighter movie and the game that came along with it. *shudder*

Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat couldn’t have looked more dissimilar during the 16 bit era. Yet I feel their styles were much closer when MK moved to 3D models. But now with performance capture it feels like MK has gone back to that “realistic” style and once again feels completely different. I just think it’s funny how it went full circle in a way.

I feel like they might not have too much problem with Akuma but he's already been in Tekken recently, so I can see people not wanting him oversaturating like he did in the Alpha era.

Street Fighter crossing over with Mortal Kombat should be a huge event, not a one-off guest appearance. And even then, I'm not sure I want it to happen.

Too be honest, John Wick does not make a whole lot of sense because of how he's a gun based character. Neo would work well on the other hand but I'm not sure the gory aspect would please the Matrix guys as it does not fit their universe at all.

Surprisingly I think Street Fighter would be the most probable option. Japan has been known for crazier cross-overs than that and the supposed rivalry between the two licences is only really a thing in american people's minds.
