Sonic the Hedgehog new trailer drops, movie releasing Feb. 14th, 2020

It's finally here!
Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

It was, how can I put it... underwhelmingly cute? The new Sonic looks super adorable and lovable, but the jokes, man. The jokes still remind me of that Alvin/Smurfs/Scooby/Yogi/Garfield live action style that I just can't deal with. It even has the roadtrip trope, the fart jokes, the pet interaction trope, the human costume at a party trope.

....But that joke where Sonic appears, Robotnik screams and the guy just punches him in the face was priceless. Actually played with my expectations and made me laugh.

The big trope it's guilty of is "the character you know but in OUR world". Otherwise this looks like what a Sonic movie should be - dumb fun. It was never going to be high art, nor should it be.

I could be wrong, but for once I think the trope is justified... so far it almost looks like this is suppose to be a Robotnik origin story.

I just think Sega should embrace Sonic's world a little more. Tails, Knuckles and the rest of the gang are pretty great characters, but I'm worried the directors might just not care about the source material at all. But... Who knows, maybe this is the first in a series of movies and is just there to explain why Eggman (a human) is in Sonic's universe, I'm afraid of beeing too delusional with that, but it'd really be cool if there's a "Sonic 2" with Tails and a "Sonic 3 & Knuckles", and both take place in a fully animated world. Who knows.

"Alvin/Smurfs/Scooby/Yogi/Garfield live action style"... maybe you should have seen less bad movies, hehe

I actually enjoyed this trailer quite a bit Smile

Ok.This one actually is much better than the first reveal.

the new design of Sonic for his movie is much better compared to the nature aberration shown in the first trailer of the movie, now Sonic look more like the Sonic of the games.

I can’t say the writing and humor of the movie has been totally salvaged, but I’ve got to hand it to the artists—they’ve done an amazing job with the redesign. There is so much more appeal to the way he looks and is animated, it’s like night and day. Mad props to all their hard work.
