Pokemon Sword and Shield online servers slammed with major traffic

Online traffic is super effective

When you have 6 million people scooping up Pokemon Sword and Shield in less than a week, it's no surprise that the games are getting a lot of online activity. As a matter of fact, so many people are trying to get in on the online action that it's causing some major hiccups in Japan. Multiple users are getting error messages pertaining to online, and Nintendo's network status page has pointed out that people may not be able to gain access at certain times. Things should smooth out as we move forward away from launch day.

Sucks to be you. Luckily haven’t had any problems. Maybe it’s your internet? Also why get mad at them for having maintenance, isn’t that a good thing. Here’s hoping you have a good experience sooner or later.

Online implementation and stability in SS is pretty much the worst I've ever seen:
You either use the crappy Y-Com or you can't be online with your console at all. And I can't tell you how many times I got disconnected using that piece o' garbage.
Online raids do not work for me at all. Nobody joins my battles and if I try to join someone I get an error message.
Oh, and yesterday they decided it would be a good idea to take down the servers for maintenance at the worst possible time, when most people play.

Nah, Smash and Mario Kart work as good as ever.
They could have decided to start their maintenance during a time where most people are at work or at school, that's what that was about.
But it seemed to have worked out in the end, since I had no error messages or disconnections yesterday.

Considering this is a global game, there is no real time when that's possible, because it's never school/work time simultaneously across the three major regions

I thought they have one server for each region. My bad.

I think they have multiple servers, but they're all connected together (not unlike a cloud) so that you can still connect, say, European people with American people.

If they do maintenance, it's not on just one server, but it has to be on the network as a whole

You certain that’s what’s pissing you off? Seems like some misplaced anger. Servers seem to work as expected. A few minor hiccups in the launch window but I haven’t encountered anything that you mentioned. Have a strawberry daiquiri and mellow out.

Misplaced? I'm having a blast with the games so far but the online functions put a real damper on my fun.

I've heard they got rid of the Global Trade Station. Is it true? It was always a feature I loved.

Not really. Pretty much renamed and slightly different

Yup, it's gone for good. You can still trade online but you can't search for specific mons.
It works like this:
- Use the trade function.
- Hope that somebody sees your sticker and joins you (not sure if you can continue to play the game and search for a trade partner at the same time).
- Choose what you want to trade.
- Hope that your partner chooses something good in return.
You can also use a password function if you want to trade with a friend.

Dang, that sounds like a bad substitute. The GTS will be missed.
