Sonic's Japanese voice actor won't be handling the role for the Sonic movie

Who's taking on the role?

Earlier today, we shared a 30-second spot for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. This spot was specific to Japan, and gave us a taste of the Japanese voice actor. While we don't know who's doing the voice, we do know that it's not longtime Sonic voice actor Junichi Kanemaru. Kanemaru has been providing the voice of Sonic since 1998, so seeing him pushed out of the movie role is pretty disappointing. Surely he would be capable of handling the work!

Don't they do this a lot when it comes to non-movie characters getting movies? Like, the normal Japanese voice actors used for The Simpsons TV series weren't used for The Simpsons Movie...

That is just like us getting mad the guy doing the sonic games here isn’t doing the voice. This is a movie made by someone else. The voices won’t be what makes this movie good or bad. And luckily it won’t be the visuals either. It will be the story which does not look to great. But I suppose we will see next year.
