As of last October (So pre-Switch release), sales were "over 4 million" so had likely just hit 4 million when SE reported them. As well we know that Dragon Quest XI S has sold 450k in Japan. That would leave with that information alone, 5.5-4.45 sales as Western sales of XI S. Of course, this doesn't account for digital sales for XI S in Japan which still haven't been accurately reported, and it is probable that some sales occurred for the Western release past 2018, so its likely not quite a million, however this means that shipments plus digital sales for XI S are likely approaching a million in the West which is pretty good, especially given they were only around 600k in the West when data was released last year (early November). https://square-enix-games.com/en_GB/news/dragon-quest-xi-echoes-of-an-elusive-age-ships-over-4-million-copies-globally

Edit: Also as I should have pointed out "West" really means not Japan since Asian sales are lumped in there as well but its hard to know how much that affects the numbers.

Thanks for the breakdown! It's hard to keep track of all of the sales numbers across releases, but this helps paint a clearer picture.

Yup. I saw a lot of people overestimating sales in Japan pre-Switch, but unless sales in the West did absurdly well earlier this year (which to be fair would've been impressive in its own right), seems XI S is doing pretty well

So can we now expect them to port the other games like Dragon Quest 5,6,7,8 and 9 on Switch?

Don't forget to include 4 ;)

I can only see this happening is if Square ports the DS and 3DS games as is (but tweaking 9 to either incorporate Nintendo Switch Online or omitting online functions entirely) without any remastering.

Otherwise just look for the DS and 3DS entries. ;)

The issue here is that the games were not designed with two screens in mind. So porting them to Switch seems like the best bet. Heck, they can even simply port the mobile versions and that would be fine(well ok, maybe the mobile port of 8 would be a bad idea.)

I think they'd do the same as the first 3 games and port from the phone versions. From what I heard that's the most complete version of IV, and they are already in HD making it more cost effective. As for IX, it would be more work than the others, but they'd have plenty of time to assess if it is worth it or not if they release them sporadically.
