Switch game cards released by Tencent in China will not work on Switch hardware from other regions

Well here's a really weird discovery for you. One of the many things Switch owners know about the platform is that it's region-free. A game you want isn't coming out in your region, or is delayed significantly compared to other parts of the world? Just import the game card or hop on that region's eShop and you're good to go! Sadly that's not the case when it comes to the Switch that Nintendo and Tencent released in China.

Physical game cards released by Tencent for the Chinese Switch will not function on Switch hardware from other regions. The first physical game for Switch in China is New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and that release simply won't work on any other Switch. This is a situation that will certainly impact those in China, but hopefully it'll be a non-issue for those with a Switch from any other region. Just remember to never buy a physical Switch game from China!
