Brand loyalty study shows Nintendo trailing Microsoft and Sony

How loyal are you?

The gang at Best SEO Companies have put together a study on Generational Brand Loyalty. The study included over 1,000 people, and they were asked which brands they consider themselves the most loyal to or purchase from the most often. The results for the gaming category are above, and as you can see, Nintendo comes in third place overall.

The brand loyalty between Microsoft and Nintendo is extremely close, but Sony easily trumps both platforms. I honestly thought that Nintendo would be at the top, but I guess with a wider/expanded audience, you get customers who pick up a generation or two of Nintendo hardware, and then don't feel particularly attached to the brand overall.

Same can be said for Microsoft and Sony though. Microsoft barely has any exclusives in the Xbox brand and Sony constantly changing policies that are annoying.

But really though, this servey is lame. If you want to find out the most loyal brand, look elsewhere.

Not gonna lie I'm waning, but as long as they have Zelda Ima always buy a Nintendo system to play it. With that said I dont like selective polling. If it was public and I participated I consider polls more accurate. With that said I dunno if I'd buy the next system if it was less powerful than PS4 maybe even Pro but definitely if less than PS4/XBO. I mean I'd probably still buy it if the next Zelda just wows me even with such a weak system but definitely not at launch unless ofc it's a launch game lol

What kind of people were in the 1000 people group? Was it an online poll?

The problem is that there is no information on how the survey was administered and what the margin of error is.

Essentially, Nintendo and Microsoft appear to be in a statistical dead-heat. Sony is above them. But the numbers appear to reflect traditional market as much as anything else.

I'm not surprised at all to see Nintendo behind MS and Sony. What I am surprised at is how close they were to Microsoft.
For me personally, I am most loyal to Nintendo. I might think a lot of their ideas are outright stupid and I won't hesitate to say so, but they're the only ones whose consoles I will buy on day one and with MS and Sony I usually wait up to a year.

The Wii U probably is responsible for this.

Far too many (around 80 millions IIRC) Wii buyers skipped the Wii U, and not just casual gamers, I for one have been in this hobby for +30 years and went with the Nes-SNES-64-GC-Wii-Switch route. And that makes many consumers wary, since we know Nintendo is not always churning gold. On the other hand, Xbox and particularly PS owners pretty much know what to expect from the next generation.

I can believe those results since it reflects how I feel. I used to only buy Nintendo systems but that stopped when the company went down the Wii route. I’ll still get Nintendo system for Mario, Zelda and the occasional Metroid but the loyalty just isn’t there anymore.

Sony has been considerably more consistent since Playstation became my primary platform. I’m going to be loyal to whoever caters to my interests better.

Anything can happen though.

I’m one of the diehards that has owned every Nintendo console and handheld (except Virtual Boy) since 1986. And I’ve never owned a gaming PC, Xbox or PS of any flavor. So I’m firmly in the Nintendo gaming bubble and probably always will be.

Don’t forget that Nintendo always seems to have a pretty good lock on the “under 15yo” market, meaning they are always hatching new customers through their great IP and handheld systems even if those customers drift over to Xbox/PS over time.

“Gaming PC brand” is my favourite company.
