Many were surprised that Nintendo and Platinum didn't announce a port of The Wonderful 101 for Switch years ago. It seemed like the perfect game to give a second chance to. Today we find out the game is getting a second chance thanks to a Kickstarter from Platinum Games, but apparently this effort was the fallback plan after things didn't go well with the Big N.

In an interview with Gematsu, Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya is asked if his team talked to Nintendo to bring the game to Switch. You can see Kamiya's response below.

“We felt it did not quite reach the audience that it deserved. As creators we are very confident in the game. This project is a unique opportunity to bring the fans together and see how far the game can go, which is why we went the crowdfunding route. We did speak with Nintendo about it initially, but they said, ‘you either do it only with us or do it yourselves.’ But speaking with them they allowed us to cut a deal, so we took upon ourselves to start this project.”

Well, it seems like Nintendo eventually budged a bit on their 'do it yourselves or go it alone' approach. I guess all that matters is that things got worked out in the end. Even if Nintendo isn't publishing, at least they gave their blessing.
