Kazuhisa Hashimoto, creator of the Konami Code, has passed away

We're extremely sad to report that Kazuhisa Hashimoto, creator of the Konami Code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start) has passed away at the age of 61. With the cheat code initially appearing in Gradius, the 1985 NES title from Konami, it has become a legendary passcode used across many different video games over the years (even outside Konami titles), and is even used to unlock my own personal smartphone. He will be greatly missed, and will always be remembered every time the special code is inputted across video games everywhere.

When did he die? If today I am genuinely going to fucking hate my birthday

He sure has left a legacy! This code is burned into all our brains, and it will live on forever.

That age feels like he still has a lot more to live for. Very unfortunate :<

A great legacy, but all for naught. These neat little codes have been slowly twisted over time to become yet another thing you have to pay for. But all in the name of progress, am I right?
