Smash Bros. Ultimate's next DLC fighter will be from ARMS, and will release in June 2020

Up in ARMS

The first fighter in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will be joining the battle from the Nintendo Switch game ARMS! The fighter will be announced and released this June.

Nintendo decided not to mention which ARMS fighter would make the cut for Smash Bros. Ultimate, which means we have until June 2020 to hedge our bets!

I immediately contemplated prepurchasing the second fighter pack after seeing this.

I was so excited when I saw this jumped up and down in excitement. Yeah it was no K.Rool levels of hype (nothing will ever touch that for me) but ARMS was extremely underrated. The character designs in ARMS were phenomenal. Best yet I get an ARMS amiibo.

Oh and so much for if your a spirit, assist trophy, or mii costume your "deconfirmed" as yet again Sakurai is shutting these fan theories/rules down.

Both this and Byleth have made me excited for Smash DLC again and I never thought I would say that.

I immediately regretted prepurchasing the second fighter pack after seeing this.

Oh hush now. ARMS is great.

There's a lot of great character designs that I'm afraid are just going to be ignored because Sakurai would rather choose the boring "main" guy.

We'll see, Spring Man is already an assist trophy.

Sakurai said the DLC characters were all picked by Nintendo. I would be surprised if the 2nd DLC pack is any different.

Oh hush now. No is isn't.

Sakurai even says not to buy it unless you feel confident. Rule of thumb is wait to see if 3 of them interest you

There's still quite a bit of ARMS not present in Smash, so until this character is revealed nothing has actually been debunked... and then, unless this character is Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Min Min, Ninjara or Twintelle, things will still remain not debunked...

HOLY.
YES!

This was the best single announcement on this Direct!!

Even more, the other fighter's slots are open for trophy chars..!!

A fighter from ARMS?! Crossing fingers for Min Min! ...watch it be Twintelle... because "booty"...

I think we may see cosmetic variations of more than one fighter to be among the fighter's "collors", just like Hero from Dragon Quest.

I have a very hard time believing that's remotely possible...

The various Hero characters work because they all follow a very similar design and persona, much like the various incarnations of Link...

The various ARMS characters, though unified by the basic game direction, have very distinct designs, personalities, animations and special abilities that separate them... unless they're going to abandon all the things that make every character unique and make one generic character who does nothing but punch it's not going to work...

How viable will it be to have character swaps for this character?

I think Springman, Ribbon Girl, Minmin, Kid Kobra.

Who knows, it's just that any character could use any Arm. We'll see.

Not very, I think... at best you might get Springman and Ribbon Girl, but even then you're ignoring noticeable variations between them to make it happen...

I love this announcement. I enjoyed ARMS for a while but like with many people I got tired of it after a while. Still, I loved the style of it all and felt like it deserved a character in Smash from day one.

I'm excited for the music.

Personal theory: It's not going to be any of them.

The fact that they would say that there's going to be an ARMS character but not say exactly who doesn't make sense to me. They'll be announcing and releasing the character in June instead. And what else happens in June? E3. The event may have been cancelled, but obviously Nintendo is still going to have a Direct for June. So my guess is that they're going to announce the character alongside the announcement of ARMS 2, or some sort of massive update for ARMS. If that's the case, the character could be someone entirely new. The fact that they're also giving a free trial for ARMS to Online members could be a hint to that as well, as it seems Nintendo wants to generate interest in the game again.

But that's just my theory. I could be totally off base, but I guess we'll find out in June.

That would be kind of disappointing... skipping on a fan favorite for a total stranger to promote a different game...

But wouldn't this be more an hypothesis than an actual theory?

Yes... but people tend to use the word theory to describe a guess... even if they're not the same thing...

This is a pretty safe choice for a DLC character, though its announcement leaves me somewhat underwhelmed. It’s kind of weird that no character is being chosen outright (unless it's a multiple alts thing?) Either way I’m looking forward to some more obscure Nintendo pulls or more 3rd party reps for the next 5 slots.

I am pleased with this. My unpopular Smash Bros. opinion is that we already have more than enough 3rd party reps and that Smash is a celebration of Nintendo first and foremost so I’m actually hoping a bigger portion of the next fighter pass is first party. ARMS seems like a great choice. I’d be down with Ring Fit and Astral Chain reps too. Sure they got Spirits but so did ARMS so who really knows anymore?

I'm curious to see how the ARMS character will compare to Little Mac.

No way an ARMS rep is worse than Little Mac competitively. Little Mac is the WORST character in the game lacking aerials, having a shit recovery, and having no way to stop Projectlies. The ARMS characters will no doubt have better mobility and better air game than Mac does.

ARMS is a really fun game. I hope Party Crash music is in!
