French journalist Emmanuel Lechypre decided to whisper an insensitive comment during a news broadcast when he thought the mics were turned off.
Lechypre was involved in a segment concerning the passing of numerous people in China due to the coronavirus. China was hosting three minutes of silence for those who lost their lives in the coronavirus battle, which the news program was airing. During the segment, Lechypre's mic was live, and he whispered that China was "burying the Pokémons" to others on the show.
The comment obviously upset many viewers and lead to numerous complaints. Lechypre offered up the following apology.
This morning on BFM TV, I allowed myself a totally inappropriate remark during the broadcast of a tribute to the victims of the virus in China. These inappropriate comments were broadcast on the air when I thought the microphones were closed. I sincerely apologize.
As of right now, Lechypre still holds his job at the network, and it's unsure whether any further action will be taken.
