Animal Crossing: New Horizons was once again number 1 for the Japanese software charts this week, adding another 423,367 units sold. That puts the game at just over 3 million in less than 3 weeks. That's a seriously impressive total, but there's another tidbit that puts the game's success into clearer perspective.

Since launching for the Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold roughly 2.8 million units. That game hit Switch all the way back in April of 2017. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling strong years later, but it pales in comparison to what Animal Crossing: New Horizons has done. Sure, MK8D is a port of Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons' 3-week achievement is still super impressive in comparison.
