GN Version 5.0

Excited to snag the Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass? You better make sure you pick the right version based on the game you own, as the Expansion Pass won't work if you get the wrong version. Some players found this out the hard way, leading to them with DLC they couldn't enjoy.

While some parts of Nintendo seem to be handling the situation rather poorly, Nintendo of America is not one. NoA has shared this message on Twitter.

When purchasing the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass, please ensure you select the one that corresponds with the version of the game you own. If you mistakenly purchased the incorrect pass, please contact customer support.

It seems that as long as you can verify that you've purchased the wrong DLC, Nintendo will either give you a refund or get you the right version. You can reach Nintendo customer support at this link.
