GN Version 5.0

Pokemon Co. has gone through all the entries for their Pokemon Card Game Illustration Grand Prix to select a batch of winners. This year's theme was 'Pokemon Cool Moments,' and artwork could only feature Charizard, Pikachu, Tyranitar, Milotic, Lucario, Genesect, Wishiwashi (solo form), and Zacian. The contest saw 4,050 entries altogether, and now the final winners have been chosen!

The top prize went to Jiro-san for his artwork featuring Charizard. Jiro-san wins ¥300,000 ($2,804.65) and will have their artwork released as an official Pokémon TCG card. Excellence awards for 2D Illustration and 3D Illustration went to Satoshi Kusunoki’s take on Wishiwashi , and Mr. takuyoa’s piece featuring Genesect. Each artist will receive ¥100,000 (about $934.88).

Finally, five jury prizes were given out, which amount to roughly ¥50,000 (about $467.44). The illustrations in this group featured Zacian, Milotic, Tyranitar, Pikachu, and Charizard.

It’s too early to tell if there will be a 3rd Pokémon Card Game Illustration Grand Prix competition, but I welcome the notion. Seeing the different interpretations of the theme and Pokémon is fantastic!
