GN Version 5.0

Nintendo has shared quite a feature on Ring Fit Adventure, giving a look at how the game came to be. They detail the project's early days, and show off just how much things changed during development. Check out the full details from the feature below, courtesy of a translation from PushDustIn.

- the game was originally going to be more simplistic, with the player holding two Joy-Con, and the Ring-Con didn't exist
- players would move across a field and punch enemies in turn-based battles
- the team decided to add a Joy-Con to a leg and wrist in order to allow for different kinds of movements
- the team started added rhythm-based mechanics, along with stealth and mini games
- a companion character was added as well
- the addition of all this content meant the game was quickly becoming not as straight forward as Wii Fit
- the team came up with the Ring Con, which helped tie everything together
- in the original build, players would need to squat 3 times to build up energy, and then shoot out energy from the Ring-Con
- the team added Tanren Village, where players could train at any time
- the team also set out to include a bigger variety of moves to to the experience
- the world map and Tanren Village would be combined, and training dojos were all mixed into the world map
- the map also showed the course time so players would see how tough it was
- as the project turned into more of a fitness tool, the title screen and the game started to change to reflect that
- the menu changed into a real life gym, and information was added to help guide the players
- clothing was adjusted to show sweat on the character
- developers also gave players more control over the intensity of the workout
- as the devs tested the game, the floor would sometimes shake like there was an earthquake
- there is only one shower at the office, and lines would quickly form during development, as devs need to rinse off after testing
