Charles Barkley is no doubt a basketball legend. I don't know a thing about basketball, and even I know his name. He's one of a handful of players who escaped the basketball classification to reach out into greater pop culture. So why doesn't he appear as one of the legends in NBA 2K21?

Barkley was asked why he isn't part of the 2K series, and he had a pretty straightforward answer. Barkley says he's looking to help out older NBA players that weren't as popular as him, and therefore didn't make much money. Today's NBA gives much better money to players all-around, be they superstars or lesser-known team members. Back when Barkley was playing, that wasn't the case. The players lower on the totem poll didn't really make much at all.

Barkley says he's willing to join NBA 2K21 if 2K would pay retired players a million dollars a year to use their likeness in NBA 2K games. Apparently 2K calls him every year and asks if he's changed his mind, and obviously Barkley hasn't. Pretty cool to see him sticking to his guns for fellow retired players.
