Nintendo confirms Switch surpassing 60 million units sold, says total sales could one day surpass previous hardware totals

Go Switch, go!

Nintendo's most recent Corporate Management Policy Briefing included a Q&A session with investors/analysts, and the English translation of that session is now available. In the snippet below, Nintendo talks about the Switch's total sales, where it's at in its lifespan, and what the future holds.

Meanwhile Sony PlayStations boss made a statement saying “a low-spec console at a low price range hasn’t produced pleasing results in this industry’s past.”

A swing and a miss at Xbox Series S when you look at both the Wii and Switch proving him very wrong.

Yet the XsS and gamepass is what will sell best (save) the Xbox next gen me thinks.

This has been Sony's stance in a while. It's either their way or it's crap.
Microsoft started doing backwards compatibility, Sony said it was useless. Then people started praising MS for it, so they added it to PS5.
They think only the most expensive hardware is good enough, so they sh!t on the Switch and Series S.
And I could go on, but you get my point.

It's the kind of hubris that annoys me and drives me further away from them.

In the end the games are the reason we play...games... This gen Sony and Ninty killed it when it comes to games. Some of my all time games are from this gen. MS lacks there. Guess I just like Japanese games more than Western ones. But the thing is, Sony and Ninty will continue this trend next-gen it seems.

This past gen was a good one for Sony. I didn't care much for the distribution of games that appealed to me, though. Looking back it was great. Living through it was kinda meh besides 2018 and 2020.

Next gen it's gonna be good because all three will have their exclusives. If the past 2 gens are anything to go by, this gen will last until late 2027. So the new MS studios will have plenty to offer us. Also, in their last event (showing us Avowed and Fable, for instance), they said that there were 5 studios working on stuff we haven't even seen yet. So time will show us what they have in store.

2027 with upgraded "pro" consoles perhaps. But I think MS will go 3rd party after the XsX/XsS. They are already getting into it. I kinda hope so when looking at what they are doing now: Nothing new!

The PS4 and Switch just killed it this gen and I am sure they'll continue that route for a while. Time will tell, of course.

Soukyugurentai SS(Terra Diver) is damn hard BTW! =D

Nothing new!

We've already had this discussion, but I'll add a little something. The PS2, PS3 and PS4 did nothing new and still sold ;)

2027 with upgraded "pro" consoles perhaps.

This past gen lasted exactly 7 years. The previous one last 7 on the average of the 3 systems (8 for the 360, 7 for the PS3 and 6 for the Wii). And is there any doubt we'll be getting Pro Consoles in 2023 or 2024?
My only doubt is if Sony will release a less gigantic PS5 and still call it Slim

We'll see, we'll see. But if you look at what MS did with the XO and what they are doing with X Series...We'll either see lotsa new editions before they go 3rd party. There sure will be a PS5 Slim or Pro or something and a Switch new something...

PS4 did nothing new and still sold ;)

Bull! They made VR a bit more mainstream. Why do dome people always forget VR? :D OK I wont argue too much about the touchpad... Smile

Nah! HAve a good day, ACM... I needz shuteyezzzZZZZzzz

Have you seen the size of the PS5? Even a "Slim" would still be larger than a regular PS4. I'm sure there'll be a smaller/cheaper model, but the word Slim will have lost its meaning to them if they use it, which they will because it's Sony and they will not come up with something new for the name.

VR is not an integral part of the console. Just as the Move wasn't before. It's a nice piece of optional tech with a super limited library that is mostly comprised of glorified tech demos. Is it a necessary step in terms of hardware to make VR more readily available? Sure. But the amount of compelling software is just too low to justify the price to most people.

The touchpad is like giving someone a nice car, but they can only get it into first gear. For 90+% of games it's just another button. There are cool uses, like in Ghost of Tsushima, but that's the exception, not the rule.

Have a nice rest, man Smile

Yeah it'sHUGE and I am still wondering where to placeit among all my other babies. I'm looking at my gaming section now and planning... =D

VR is, as I have said many times before, not THE future of gaming but a huge part of it. Most people who try instantly "get it" and Sony introduces it to many new gamers. But PSVR is very limited, specially with the controls, but at least it's there. YOu have to start somewhere. HEck, I have more VR games for the PS4 than non-VR. Yeah, most are basically tech demos but there are those gems that are just made for VR. Creative people make great ganes with the tools they have (Paper Beasts, Blood and Truth to anme some I have payed recently). VR is just so immersive I love it and it will just get better with PSVR 2. Though I am eyeballing a gaming PC with Vive (Oculus and facebook...damn you two).

What MS did announce today is HUGE!!!!!!! I applaude them. I truly do. And you know how negative I have been towards them lately. But this also means I might not get DOOM VFR2 =(

I couldn't even fit it standing up, and even sideways would be tough.

VR is definitely a part of gaming. It will grow for sure, especially because if it shrinks it will likely die. But it's a hard sell. I mean why buy it for just for the novelty of it if by that price you can buy a console from another company and a vast library of games that are much more than tech demos? And it's the kind of immersion you have to experience it first hand to really understand it, similar to the 3DS, but unlike the 3DS you don't see big names flocking to it. I also hate the fact that you have a million cables around for the thing to work.

If they can improve the hardware, minimize cables, reduce the price and increase the amount of games, I would consider it. Otherwise, the new Switch model, Series S and PS5 will always be a priority.

They now have 23 studios under their umbrella. This coming gen was interesting, but now I'm even making popcorn to enjoy the show Smile

f I keep this TV I MIGHT be able to place it on the side if I push things further to the right. Or it'sll be between my LD and LP player. Old meets new, eh?

The thing with VR is that games are there, not just tech demos. But it will get better with time but that's why it was so important that Sony went all in with pushing it. As you said, VR has to be experienced first hand (I also mentioned that above) and trust me: When my friends tested it they were all for it. YEah, it needs polishing and it costs some, but still it's just so great an immersion. Sure, I can't play VR in summer when it's hot, so things will get smaller with time and more practical.

Sony will sure be going all in for exclusive deals I am guessing... Or they'll purchase Squeenix... Or tehy'll work with Nintendo again..Or both...Bayonetta 3 releases tonight! Smile

Imagine in Brazil, my friend

Just don't put it next to the Wi-Fi router hehe

I don't know what you're taking, but it is strong ;P
I can see the guy at Sony who led the deal to get FF XVI exclusivity waking up today and almost fainting hehe

This will likely be the first generation in a while where all competitors will have awesome games to offer Smile

So guys what do you think now that they themselves said that they want to extend the lifespan of the switch further?

Just waiting for them to announce the "Switch Superb" after the dust between Sony and MS has settled.

I think this says that they're going to keep the Switch name for the foreseeable future. They've laid the foundation, which hopefully this time they don’t botch by confusing the market or adding a U to the brand. We've had Gameboy/Gameboy Advance and DS/3DS. I think they'll do the same with this handheld as well. Unless it gets toxic like the Wii brand was towards the end(which was their fault, resting on their laurels), they'd be foolish to dump the Switch moniker and start another brand from scratch.

If I remember correctly they already stated that they'll keep the Switch thing goingon as long as possible. So I guess a "Pro" and an eventual Switch 2 before they do something else... Just hope they add features like VR.
