Super Mario 3D All-Stars' version of Super Mario 64 fixes the backwards long jump glitch, but there's an even crazier method speedrunners can use

Calves of steel!

Super Mario 64 speedrunners have been using the backwards long jump glitch to skip portions of the game for years now, but for anyone playing the game in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, that glitch just isn't possible. That's alright though, as there's another glitch that gets you through the castle at a record pace, and it's even more impressive.

As you can see in the snippet above, it's possible to build up insane amounts of speed by wall-kicking consecutively in part of the castle. This glitch might take a lot more patience and skill to pull off correctly, but the end result is the same. Let the glitched speedruns continue!

Thanks to Dondom95 for the heads up!

Weeell... the footage comes from a TAS (Tool Assisted Speedrun), I have my doubts that this is possible to pull off by hand...

Yeah, every single one of those wall kicks is frame perfect. It's impossible for someone to pull that off. Frankly, it'd be impressive for a speed runner to get 3 of those first frame wall kicks, let alone that many.

That looks stupidly hard and impossible to perform during an actual speed run.

Well...that is something. I mean I get why people like speedrunning but I honestly think this one is too absurd.

That clip was the best comeback story I've seen in a long time. First he hops and he's slowing down and nearly hits the ground, but then like a phoenix begins rising back up and going faster and faster until you don't know what's going on or what's going to happen, but you can't wait for it to happen.

Then you find out it was TAS. 😞

Unless I'm mistaken every one of those wall-kicks is a firsty, meaning the input has to be on the very first possible frame every single time.

So yeah, TAS only.
