Spellbreak might be a battle royale at its heart, but it's also trying to do a number of new things with the genre. That includes not spoon-feeding players every bit of info. While the game does have a tutorial, it also lets players get out into the battlefield and find things out on the fly. Proletariat CEO Seth Sivak explained the process in an interview with Gamasutra.

"What we did instead was say 'hey, we're gonna let people do some active learning, because we have these little tutorial popups that help players.' With those popups, we figured 'let's get them into a match as quickly as possible, so we can have them start to experience gameplay, learn how to drink a potion, learn how to increase their armor, find loot, etc."
