Nippon Marathon 2 is currently trying to pull in funding on Kickstarter, and the team bheind the game are hoping to woo in more support with a rather unique personality. Read all about the inclusion of 'Uncle Sailor' below.

Indie dev team, Onion Soup Interactive are happy to announce a collaboration with Hideaki Kobayashi, also known as Uncle Sailor - the infamous gentleman who roams Tokyo wearing a school uniform who also happens to be the inspiration behind Nippon Marathon’s Zenbei character.

As part of a new popularity feature, Uncle Sailor (along with other yet-to-be-announced celebs), will give players challenges to complete during the race thereby creating new opportunities to score points or sabotage their friends.

The developers want to give the game’s popularity mechanic a Japanese daytime TV show twist;

“If you’ve ever watched Japanese TV, you’ll have been confused by the colourful text and celebrities in small boxes reacting to what’s happening”. Says developer Amy Madin. “We wanted to recreate this but instead of having celebrities react to news, they react to in game-events, such as a player carrying two bananas at once! It’s going to be fun seeing what crazy demands the celebrities make”.

The developers have opened up the ability to become a celebrity to their Kickstarter backers too; as part of the “Be a Celebrity” tier, backers’ face and voice will be included in the game and they’ll work with Onion Soup Interactive to configure their likes and dislikes for each course. So whether you are a famous YouTuber or a celebrity in your own back garden, you can join Uncle Sailor in Nippon Marathon 2 by backing the campaign.
