Take the crown when Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield return to Tetris 99

The worlds of Pokemon and Tetris are colliding once more. With the Crown Tundra DLC on the way to Pokemon Sword and Shield, Tetris 99 players will have another chance to grab a special theme for the game. Check out full details below.

While you’re gearing up to make camp in The Crown Tundra with the Pokémon™ Sword Expansion Pass* for the Pokémon Sword game and the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass* for the Pokémon Shield game, you can prep for your explorations with a Tetris® 99 event! Next weekend’s 17th MAXIMUS CUP event will give players the chance to earn an in-game theme that brings back the Pokémon spirit to the Tetris 99 game on the Nintendo Switch™ family of systems.

The Tetris 99 17th MAXIMUS CUP event runs from 12 a.m. PT on Oct. 16 to 11:59 p.m. PT on Oct. 19. To participate, Nintendo Switch Online members** need to play the Tetris 99 online mode during the event period. You’ll be able to earn event points based on your ranking in each match.

For this MAXIMUS CUP, the required points to unlock your Pokémon prize have been lowered from 100 to 50 event points, giving everyone a chance to obtain this theme who may have missed it the first time around. Once you secure those 50 points, your theme will unlock***, which features background art, music and Tetrimino designs inspired by Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

The wide world of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield broadens further on Oct. 22 when The Crown Tundra Expansion Pass content arrives, so be sure to max out your Tetris 99 experience with plenty of Pokémon themed action before the big day hits.

A Nintendo Switch Online membership also offers access to the new, competitive online battle game Super Mario Bros.™ 35, playable through March 31, 2021. Compete with other players to remain the last Mario standing. Special Battles will be regularly held and put you against other players in a set order of courses and special conditions.
