Or Nintendo could release a console that could play all these games natively. That way we can own them properly, don't need to be connected permanently online to play or worry about compromises.

Even if Nintendo did a high end platform, some 3rd parties still wouldn't bother with Nintendo. Sure Switch support is a little better, but it's a far cry from the NES/SNES era (Wii and DS aside).

Hell the last time Nintendo had a high-end platform, it was GameCube and PS2 beat it single-handedly despite having weaker specs.

This argument doesn't really hold up anymore. If there is money to make, they will get games onto that platform. Sure, EA may still be pissed about the entire no Origin on Wii U thing (if true), but if they can get some monneh, they will. Times have changed after all.

This argument never heald water. The PS2 was not very much weaker than the GC(nor Xbox) but it had the games! It also had great advertisement and that darn DVD player (also good PR). The gap between Switch and PS4(Pr) is way bigger than the PS2 and GC.

1) If that's no longer true, then where's the full support from EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc.? All they're doing is offering lesser games, old ports/"remasters" of old games, and Call of Duty is still missing from Nintendo platforms. Nintendo has not seen a CoD since 2013's Ghosts.

There's a reason why there's stereotypes. "Nintendo is kiddie." "3rd parties don't sell on Nintendo platforms." Hell there was a story this year about how something almost passed up launching on Switch because an executive felt like it wouldn't sell on Nintendo Switch.

2) The point was Nintendo had the best tech out of the three hardware makers at the time, but they lost the market until the weak Wii put Nintendo back on the map.

1: The Switch can't handle the games that are designed for better specs and different chip sets. It takes time and money to port games to Switch which often means late ports which often means poor sales compared to the others. So a late port which is also worse in the GFX department isn't really a money grabber. Some work, Like Witcher 3 (great port from what I hear) and DOOM etc. If it were easier to port, there would be more games. They just don't take risks, really. And I mentioned EA and I can agree that they may still be grumpy at Ninty. Thing is, these businesses are just that: businesses! If there's money to get, they should be going for it.

2: Yeah, but the GC didn't have the support the PS2 got. PS2 had the name from the PS1 era, and got so much support it was insane. I love my GC (it's saying hello now) but it had bad "kiddie" image adnd got little support etc...ANd didn't have DVD player...

With the Switch Nintendo have gotten rid of the "kiddie" image pretty good, really. It's cool to have a Switch now. But it's still not a powerful enough system to get a ll that 3rd party support/parity it could have gotten. A lot of this also has to do with the flop of the Wii U. 3rd parties waited too long and now the Switch is killing it.

1) Then build the game from scratch. What developers used to do for Nintendo Wii, but refuse to do now for Switch.

2) No, Nintendo is still dogged by the kiddie image by many hardcore gamers. Nintendo is the Disney of gaming and even Disney was tarnished by being labelled the kiddie movie company that they had to create alternate branding just to make more mature stuff not flop at theaters. Nintendo at present only leaves it to 2nd parties to make more mature stuff since Nintendo says they can't make mature titles in house being dogged by the kiddie stereotype to this day.

1: Oh I agree that they SHOLD make games from scratch, but that's taking a big chance again. If it doesn't sell they lose even more money than on ports. Unless Ninty pays for the development and publishing like with Bayonetta and Astral Chain. I as super happy to see AC sell so well. One of my fav games this gen. But I also think Octopath did pretty good (yeah, Nintendo published it in some parts of the world). But there are still games that just can't run on Switch and that's a fact, so... Switch Pro perhaps?

2: I think Nintendo did very good with advertising the Switch "to everyone" taking away some of the kiddie image. I see a lot of people who didn't touch a Nintendo system since the GC era now jumoing back on the wagon. Amd also people who just never were into the Nintendo thing going for it. They wont wash it off entirely, but at least they have a little better image these days.

Yes, Nintendo should abandon all soon to be 80+ million Switch owners and launch a much more powerful piece of hardware to compete directly agains Sony and Microsoft. What could go wrong?

I never said they should abandon the existing customers, but they could make a more powerful console backwards compatible. Games like this, in this form are garbage in my opinion. It's €40 for what is effectively a rental system until they shut the servers. You don't own these games.

While I basically agree with you Cloud streaming, so much content from Hitman is tied to the servers and being online anyway that you basically can't access 90% of the game on other platforms when the servers go down eventually. Plus, new Nintendo hardware that could feasibly run the game is no guarantee it would get the games. They'd have to put money into another platform, which we already know a lot of western third parties either dont see the value or just cant afford it, whereas this is just a PC build of the game that already exists either way streaming to this system.

So you want them to have two different systems with different power levels again? So that we have a long dry spells of games again. What could go wrong?

If you think games like this are garbage, speak with your wallet and don't pay for them.
You own them while servers are up. Almost the same as I own a bunch of Mega Drive games but my console is dead so I can't play them ;) (It's a joke in case you didn't get it)

More cloud garbage, disgusting.

After the Switch, Nintendo should make the "Nintendo Chimera" A monster (Chimera, DUH) of a home console in specs. It has a Switch 2 as a controller. All games can be played on both, but the it's 8K on the CHimera base and 4 K on the Chimera handheld. Can also work like the Wii U with two screens. Both have their own VR setups even. A VR on the go and a VR at home... It can also hold my beer when I game... Being a Chimera, RAM can be added and CPU/GPUs upgraded
