U.S. gaming hardware spend hits a new record, Switch sells more Q3 units than any platform since the DS in 2009
Video game spend in the U.S. for Q3 2020 has been absolutely huge. The NPD has put out a report revealing that overall total industry consumer spending on video games in the U.S. reached $11.2 billion, setting a new record. Big-name games that helped boost the industry include Among Us, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Fortnite, Ghost of Tsushima, Madden NFL 21, Marvel’s Avengers, Minecraft, NBA 2K21, Paper Mario: The Origami King, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2.
Outside of the industry-wide success, there was another record for Nintendo specifically. According to the report, the Switch sold more hardware this quarter than any third quarter since the DS back in 2009. Once again, Nintendo sets a new record by dethroning themselves!
