While filming for the Mortal Kombat movie has gone well, the actual release is up in the air. The pandemic has caused quite a bit of trouble for the film industry, shuffling release dates and moving theatrical films to digital distribution. That digital option was considered for the Mortal Kombat movie as well.

While Warner Bros. was contemplating what to do with the new Mortal Kombat movie, they thought about going the digital route. It seems that idea was tossed around for a bit, but was eventually shelved for the traditional theater route. As for a release date, there's still not one locked in, as Warner Bros. is still feeling out the process for getting back to traditional movie releases.
