Sakurai shares new insight into bringing Sephiroth to Smash Bros. Ultimate

A character with some unique challenges

Sephiroth is the latest character to join the Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, and he's been welcomed by players all over the globe. Seeing another boss join the game was rather unexpected, and not surprisingly, implementing him required some extra work. Sakurai shares details on bringing Sephiroth to Smash in his latest Famitsu column, which you can watch a breakdown of above, or read some bullet points for below.

- Sakurai wants boss characters to feel like bosses
- Sakurai wanted Sephiroth to have some unusual poses to better accentuate his strength
- Sakurai says it was difficult implementing the Sephiroth Challenge, and things took some extra time
- It took awhile to figure out how to best implement Sephiroth's reach and speed
- Sakurai thought of the plot for the reveal trailer before Final Fantasy VII Remake came out

I always wanted more boss content. Android (the monkey head/brain), Sigma, Gruntilda, Ender Dragon, Mr. Dream, Medusa, and Eggman just to name a few. It's thrilling that we ended up with Sephiroth as a playable fighter though!

I agree. The bosses are all a lot of fun I thought. I'm bummed they didn't bring back thr Tabuu fight. Ive always wanted Eggman as a playable character though. With 2 Castlevania, Street Fighter, and Final Fantasy (VII) characters, with the last being such an iconic and loved boss, Eggman seems like a rather glaring omission at this point to me.
