Man in England fined £200 after breaking lockdown rules to play Pokemon Go

According to BBC, a man in England broke the country's lockdown rules in order to play Pokemon Go for a few hours. He was caught and fined £200, and the police concluded that catching Pokemon was not a valid excuse for violating the quarantine guidelines.

The frequency of the term “Orwellian” has skyrocketed in the last 12 months with very few correct usages. Your comment is one such example.

Lockdowns exist because so many dumb selfish people can’t follow simple guidelines to protect themselves and others and minimise viral transmission. The people that cry about lockdowns are the very reason we have them.

And for the most part, you’re not even in strict lockdown. New Zealand was in strict lockdown and have had a total of less 2,000 cases. BuT tHeiR pOpUlAtiOn.... yeah Ireland has a similar population and have had more cases, every day last week, than New Zealand has had in 12 months. Right now, if you’re in Europe, Canada or U.S., you’re mildly inconvenienced, for the second or third time. Why? Because that first minor inconvenience back in March/April was too much for you to handle and people clamoured for restrictions to ease and the cycle continued and only create further damage to public health, education, economy, and businesses.

A fine is justified. A kick in the head would be even better.

This is very Orwellian.

It's pretty clear to me at least that these lockdowns don't work and are being abused by people in power. Also that man was probably going to spend £200 on Pokémon Go that day anyways, at least let him choose how he wants to spend it.

How was his usage incorrect?

Protecting people from themselves seems fairly accurate.

Government don’t want lockdowns. No matter how much tin-foil people wear on their heads, it’s just not true that any government wants lockdowns.

If they DID want lockdowns, for no reason, then that could be described as Orwellian. Protecting people from themselves is not Orwellian either.

Propaganda, lies, misinformation, denial of truth - that’s Orwellian. Ironic since the people who often use the term are knee deep in participating in it themselves.

That's so true.

And if anyone thinks people can do what's best to protect themselves, please look at Brazil's current state. The Governments are begging people to stay home unless they absolutely need to leave their homes, and if they do, to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Sounds simple enough.

However, most people are not wearing masks, some that do don't cover their noses (genius). And people are leaving home to go to the mall to walk around, to go to bars to drink, to have parties...

So, yeah, lockdowns are just as needed as a fire fighter who rappels down a building and kicks the suicidal jumper in. It's not pleasant, but we gotta stop people from killing themselves

Lockdowns, in the UK at least, happen because the NHS has far surpassed its capacity and can't take care of patients properly anymore.

I’d say that these lockdowns are justified, considering the pandemic situation.
That said, they could set a precedent and lead governments to abuse similar measures in the future. Let’s remain vigilant.

I would suggest looking back at past pandemics or at least the attempts made in claiming something was a pandemic before giving up control or your life to a government or an organization.

This video can offer some insight to what I'm referring to however you should always look into all the sources yourself before settling on a viewpoint.

And of course the video has been removed.

Oh that's too bad. Good thing Odysee still has it, we need more competing platforms anyways.

Never even heard about odysee before... Thanks for the link.

I just learned about it last week, it launched last month, it gives creators more direct control of their content with out the fear of having their work removed. I like it but there are still some QOL features that need to be added for me to make it my go to spot for casual viewing.

I don't know what's worse, having to pay a £200 fine or having to play Pokemon Go. And this poor unfortunate did both. Have mercy!

Gotta catch ‘em all. But don’t catch Covid.

Maybe he was trying to check-up whether his Koffing and Weezing was Covid related.
