Listen to Post Malone's Pokemon collaboration song, "Only Wanna Be With You (Pokémon 25 Version)"

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, The Pokemon Company International has teamed up with singer Post Malone to create special commemoratory music. Post Malone has created a pop song that samples music from Pokemon Gold & Silver, and the song is now available on music-streaming services.

This....is the collaboration? There must be more coming than a cover of a 90s song with half a second of Pokemon music in it....right? I was legitimately interested, but this was nothing.

I read your comment before I gave it a listen, thinking there must be more to it than that, but you're right! The vibe of the time during the chiptune-y Pokemon part was the best thing in the song, so it's a total bummer we didn't get more like that.

I see why Post Malone is famous, but he's not really my thing. And that opinion was formed BEFORE he did this Hootie and the Blowfish cover. Very strange.

I can only assume we will get a music video that is Pokemon related during the presentation, because yeah this is basically not related right now. The original music video barely relates to the song as it is, so slapping Pokemon in it won't really be any worse hahahaha.

This is part of the set list for the virtual concert he is doing this weekend.

Virtual concert doesn't give us enough information to assume there will be any other Pokemon "related" songs though. Hell, it's hard to assume there will be more than just this one song, too, unless there has been more information released on it that I haven't seen.

I doubt they will ALL be Pokémon related. That’s not really how a double promotion works. He is most likely going to play songs from his album. Here is an excerpt from Rolling Stone:

“ Officially dubbed the “Pokémon 25 Version” of the song, Post Malone’s rendition trades the rootsy production of the original track for lush, echoing guitar and plenty of synthesizer sound effects that are reminiscent of the original Pokémon video game.

The song will be included in the setlist for Post Malone’s appearance at the Pokémon anniversary concert, streaming at 7:00 p.m. EST / 4:00 p.m. PST on February 27th.”

And Billboard:

“The Pokémon team put in so much work -- this is one of the coolest things I’ve been a part of. There may be some surprises, too. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Definitely not much to go on, but it sounds like there is more! Smile

Cheers for the info! Here's to hoping there is more then!
