A Message From Kevin Cassidy

Hello everyone.

This is t27duck. I know many of you probably have gone through several emotional roller coasters over the last few days.

I have been in contact directly with NickyHill over the....uhh... status of things and have received direct instructions from Kevin.

Firstly, the following is a direct copy/paste from Kevin Cassidy himself...

Hey guys, I'm sorry I've been MIA for the last few days. This was completely unplanned, and I had no way to contact anyone when it happened.

I want you all to know that I'm healthy and safe. That goes for Mom Brain and the whole GN crew too. Actually, it goes for anyone tied to GN. We are 100% fine, I promise.

Obviously something is keeping me away from work for the time being, but I can't get into details yet. I know that's extremely frustrating, and I am right there with you. As soon as everything is worked out, I'll be back to share details with you.

Again, I promise everyone is in good health. This is not related to the pandemic or anything like that. Mom Brain and I are sitting on the couch doing crossword puzzles and being our stupid selves as I type this.

When everything is settled, I'll fill you all in. Unfortunately, it's going to take patience, and that goes for our end too.

Ok, so again the above is straight from Kevin.

Additionally despite the very appreciative rise of support from his staff and fans... I have also recieved other instructions.

Disregard the post about Nintendojam and Yoshiller "handling the site" until his return. No, they are not in any trouble. I have been instructed that this post is the post on the site until I hear otherwise. I am not revoking anyone's access to various parts of the site for the time being unless told otherwise, but I do ask the existing alt story writers to "take a break" until given the high sign else I will invoke stronger measures.

Beyond that, the rest of this site will run as "normal" with comments and PMs working as they should.

Was it bad of me to hope that RMC would rise again today?

He certainly has the beard for it.

This has left me in a trail of tears, not unlike Deux Michaels

It's sad to think RMC and co. weren't here for the announcement of that Niantic-developed Pikmin mobile game, the termination of Mario's 35th Anniversary or April Fools 2021.

Come back RMC and co., you are really missed.

Hopefully we will know what is going on. It’s weird coming to this site and it is just frozen in time.

I’m sure this is not being easy to RMC, considering his devotion to the website. But he’ll rise again, no doubt about that! Sending my support from Portugal!

Yeah, of course everyone misses the site updates and podcast but this is RMC’s livelihood. I can live without the podcast and such, I just hope he’s not taking too hard of a hit because of the downtime.

Yeah...gonintendo is his fulltime job and mb's is her teaching job. rmc must barely be getting anything the past month. No idea what they have saved up either. The fact they can't say anything makes it even harder to know if they can sustain themselves or not. I know he said he was okay a month ago but I wonder if even he truly knows how long he'll be silent

And that's the biggest issue, nit us missing the updates. Truly wish it's all good. He seems like such a nice and honest guy.

I read this article on game preservation..from Nintendolife...

What a load of rubbish talk. Its as if the author did not realize that Nintendo DID not dump the Super Mario Bros Rom at all. And do you know who confirmed that news to us? Freaking GoNintendo!

It's there: "It’s worth remembering that, for reasons only known in Nintendo’s HQ, the Wii Virtual Console version of Super Mario Bros. was believed to be derived, either entirely or in part, from a ROM online. The video below from Eurogamer sums it up nicely"

I think this paragraph from the Nintendo Life piece makes the same point as you:

It’s worth remembering that, for reasons only known in Nintendo’s HQ, the Wii Virtual Console version of Super Mario Bros. was believed to be derived, either entirely or in part, from a ROM online. The video below from Eurogamer sums it up nicely.

Except that the site has to be careful to not say things that it cannot back up, for fear of legal action.

I saw this article and I say it's full of nonsense. If Nintendo didn't preserve their games, we may haven't gotten Virtual Console, the Switch ports among other things. The gigaleak is proof of that.

I believe Nintendo does its duty when it comes to preservation, people just want public access to those games, betas and whatnot, and from what I've read, they think they're entitled to them for free (at least that's the attitude I get from some people).

2 days away from a full month. Sad day.
I am wondering if it was podcast-related? Some issue with their Greenlit Podcast Network sponsorship? As strage as it may seem, I fall asleep to old podcast episodes using PocketCast. I notice a few weeks ago the episodes on there were limited (some were removed), even less on there now.

Regardless, I still am hoping the GoNintendo crew remains healthy.

I miss this site a lot. I haven't been through all the threads, but found this posted by RMC a couple days before this final post, didn't know if it was a clue:

Oh wow...that’s awful!!! Damn RMC, going thru that alone must be nerve wracking, hopefully it’s not indicative of a larger issue going on. Blessings man, hope it all works out. You’re too good to the rest of us for any less.

Yeah a couple weeks ago someone else found that post....
I had hoped all this would be over in a week or two and we would all be laughing about this by now.... But
I'm truly concerned at this point.

Even if it was related to that he makes it sound like his show only existed on that platform. It's still available on spotify right this second and literally anyone can access it regardless of what they use. It would be dumb if he just gave up on it because apple decided to be the awful company that they are. I will say it is very bizarre that the post he made there was the day before he went mia

Maybe It was a clue. But then again, if It was just a podcast problem, it shouldn't have affected the site. Probably whatever has hit the site has also contacted Apple to remove the show unfortunately. And since it's been a month, whatever it is, it's supposed to be something really serious. Here's hoping RMC can sort things out to get back doing what he loves doing.

Yeah it's so bizarre. If it was a problem with RMC in particular then his other podcast would have gotten removed yet the other one is there but not gonintendo. And it remains on spotify too. I actually tried contacting apple support on twitter and got completely ignored.

Go Nintendo Podcast is still on Apple Podcasts. There was an issue with the album art and it was resubmitted.

Thanks for clearing that up. No idea why nobody else explained that

You're welcome! Just passing along info that was brought up in the Discord chat.

RMC where are youuuuuu, come baaaack! One month without any proper Nintendo updates by you, life got really boring! There's nothing like what you do here, and unlike GoNintendo which I checked multiple time per day for any news all those year, I don't even bother doing the same anywhere else, because there's no other complete news coverage like yours here, no real alternative. People are just staying uninformed more or less or partially informed at most right now. It's sad after all that time, it's like a part of me is gone :/

I don’t understand this need to bash other sites in order to show support for GoNintendo that I’ve seen here, namely Nintendo Life. It’s the equivalent of outdated console wars. Anybody taking the time to post here is obviously a GoNintendo fan and supporter. I just don’t see the purpose of throwing someone else under the bus to justify your support for RMC.

I’ve been following this situation, or I guess just checking this thread daily because what else can you do? There is no situation I can think of in which RMC would need to go radio silent with almost no explanation. Legal issues (and at this point, what else would keep home from GoNintendo)? He could still simply say due to ongoing legal issues GN will not be updated until further notice, without going into specifics. Companies make statements all the time without actually saying anything. I view RMC as one of the most honest games media people out there. But this is just truly bizarre.

I mean some of the people on here think that people get paid a salary to talk bad about nintendo and be nintendo haters so it doesn't surprise me that some of them would do that lol

NintendoLife's op-eds and reviews are pretty terrible, poorly written, and clog up their feed constantly, but yeah I've no idea why you'd come here just to put them down. Just ignore them and move on, I say.

I genuinely dislike Nintendo Life, their admins, writers and staff in general. And mos important how they treat users who don't think the same way as they. Now, I don't want to talk about that here, but I assume you get the idea of what kind of topics you can't "discuss" on NL.
They ban people if their staff considers some comment/opinion as "offensive". I got banned because I wrote "woke" in one comment.
So that is why I don't like NL, and I don't recommend other people to use it if someone ask me for alternative for Nintendo news. I don't want to get lectured by videogame journalists about other things that have nothing to do with videogames.
It's not bashing, it's just my opinion and from what I've seen, lots of others think the same. If you want to check NL that's cool too. Besides, I don't consider myself a GoNintendo die-hard fan either.
I don´t agree with some stuff they have posted here (mostly reviews), but for me, they at least try to stay away from all this other nonsense that has nothing to do with Nintendo or videogames.

I’ve been holding back on commenting as I was truly hoping RMC and Crew would be back by now, but since it’s now one day shy of a month since radio silence, I want to send my love to RMC and Crew and let you know I will still be here once you return. As many others, I have been visiting GoNintendo religiously every day, about 5 times per day for years (it became a habit) and I still check on the page at least twice a day for any updates. I pray the crew is doing well and that all this gets resolved. God bless.

*just now notices GN's down*

Any day now we're gonna get word that RMC's assets have been seized by the feds and he's worse than Ed Gein and John Wayne Gacy combined. A captain hat + beard combo will be 2021's hottest halloween costume, I can feel it.

Tue Apr 06 21 04:39pm
(Updated 1 time)

This is a bit bizarre. Considering that this is Kevin’s bread and butter and he’s just gone radio silent. I remember coming to this site several times daily 15 years ago for the latest news in the days leading up to the Wii and the years following. I remember even being annoyed at the guys sleeping schedule that he stayed up so late and then wasn’t updating when I was up in the morning at work.

Life has gotten more complicated so my checking it out is more infrequent but the fact the site is still here, still being updated by RMC says something. Makes his absence all the stranger. Leaving it up to speculation. One would assume it’s some sort of legal issue. The fact that his pod was removed from Apple shortly before could be a red herring or could be more. Has Nintendo suddenly applied force to him using their name in his business? No idea to the legalities of it but a company like Disney is well known for going after anyone and everyone using their name or characters.

Tue Apr 06 21 05:22pm
Rating: 1

Yeah I'm not sure. Now if it was the legality of using nintendo's name I doubt it because other sites like nintendolife exist without any problems right now

I'm surprised nothing has leaked. I'm sure RMC appreciates that everything is staying private until he publishes a statement.

And now we have no podcast discussing Pac-Man 99 either!

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd still be waiting a month later. I truly hope everything will be all right.

Since we don't know the real reason here, I'm not sure this will help, but it couldn't hurt, so I wrote to Nintendo expressing my support for GoNintendo. I am so out of the loop on Nintendo news because RMC is the only one that does Nintendo blogging right. I've been getting snippets out of Spawnwave news on YouTube, but otherwise refusing to read the other guys. If so moved, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for all of you to drop a line to Nintendo saying how much you love this site and hope it doesn't go away just so the name is on their radar and maybe somebody who can do something will help.

As we approach the one month mark, I just want to say, I will never ever stop checking this site. I love all that RMC has done and will do and consider him and the whole crew as friends I simply haven't met yet.

I hope that, whatever the problem may be, is resolved and allows him to continue doing what he loves.

Cheers Kernal! Here's to many more weeks of podcast art and the eventual GoNintendo Podcast art book!

It's the wildest thing.. I have no idea what to do with myself on Saturday nights, anymore. We were nearing 3 years of doodles and its been such an absolute joy and pleasure to do. I really hope I can get back to trying to push their strange tangents into semi coherent shapes again, soon!

It's always interesting to see which tangents you're able to latch onto, combine, and depict in your style. I'm hoping we all get to enjoy the podcasts again soon. I'm also a bit lost on Saturday afternoons if I'm not doing anything else. I still have an almost Pavlovian response to open the Discord and Youtube channel when I see the clock say 3:00-3:15PM on a Saturday.

One month later and I'm still checking daily to see a happy explanation from RMC. I hope all is well with him and the crew!

I'm also checking multiple times daily.

I've been visiting GoNintendo for a really long time and also made an account just to post here and say that i wish everything turns out to be just fine for RMC and and all the team behind this page, really miss some good ol' gonintendo news and bits Sad

Gutted, Been checking in on this place daily and this is I think my 4th comment ever Sad

Looks like it may be my last! Good luck RMC and may the odds always be in your favour Sad

Already 1 month, that’s incredible!
Like most of you I check this site few times a day since the beginning (of time).
Not only to get the newest information about games and stuff but also to get away from real life. So in a sense Gonintendo is my small haven.
I hope it’ll be there again in the very near future.
But I really can’t understand why on earth there hasn’t been a new update! Everyone is confused by this radio silence and I can’t imagine one good reason why it’s like that.
I just hope everyone is ok! Stay safe!
