Henk Rogers reveals how he convinced Nintendo to include Tetris with the Game Boy

Henk Rogers is the man responsible for first bringing Tetris to traditional gaming platforms. This includes the Game Boy version, which became synonymous with the Game Boy itself. In a recent interview with IGN, Henk talked about the discussion to make that pack-in happen.

"I said, ‘Mr Arakawa (former Nintendo of America president ), you need to include Tetris with every Game Boy’. And he said, ‘Why should I include Tetris when I have Mario?’ And I said, ‘If you want little boys to buy your Game Boy, pack in Mario. But if you want *everyone* to buy your Game Boy, pack in Tetris, because everybody plays Tetris – young, old and male, female. And then you can still sell Mario afterwards and make more money!’"

While pitching titles like Smash and Pokemon, Reggie shared the following tidbits in a Kotaku interview.

- 3DS has had growth year-on-year for the first three quarters of the year in the Americas

- Reggie reiterates that Smash Bros. Ultimate is a brand-new Smash game
- Reggie says Sakurai will continue to tweak the different characters until launch and even past launch
- Reggie says October, November, and December are critical to Nintendo hitting 20 million Switch units sold this fiscal year
- Reggie says the Americas are "well-positioned to do their fair share to meet that goal”
- for the first 12 months of availability, Switch in the United States was the best-selling system of all time
- the goal is to continue that trend
- Nintendo wants to be in a position coming out of the holidays where we can be proud of our results compared to the Wii
- Reggie would have loved for Smash Bros. Ultimate to come out earlier in the year, as December is a challenging month
- Reggie says third-party support on Switch has been quite strong

Grab yourself a keyboard that pays tribute to the Game Boy

Christmas morning 1989. Many of us tore into a wrapped package containing one of these and played it tirelessly until you ran out of AA batteries. Or until it got dark. Or until our parents yelled at us to take out the trash or shovel snow. GMK DMG is our take on this classic. Bring a bit of nostalgia to your battlestation or workspace.
