Activision offering refunds on Guitar Hero Live, so long as you purchased in Dec. 2017 or after

Did you happen to buy Guitar Hero Live in Dec. of 2017, or after? If so, you are entitled to a refund on your purchase.

As you might remember, Activision announced quite awhile ago that they would be ending the Guitar Hero TV service for Guitar Hero Live. GHTV gave users an online TV channel of sorts that offered countless songs to play. Songs would change daily/weekly/monthly, really upping the overall value of the package.

With GHTV now dead, Activision feels it's only fair to refund people the cost of purchase if they got the game in Dec. 2017 or after. If you somehow got the game and had no idea that the service was ending, you'd quickly find out that you're missing out on a large chunk of what made the experience enjoyable. If you happen to fall into that very slim category, you can file a claim for a refund here.

Freestyle Games suffers round of layoffs, but studio remains open

We're sad to report that roughly 50 people have lost their jobs at FreeStyle Games, the developer behind Guitar Hero Live. Activision has said that there were about 100 employees at the studio, so it will remain open, but operate with half the staff it had.

Activision and FreeStyle Games leadership have been considering a range of future options for the studio, and have been consulting with staff to explore all alternatives. The collective team have now reached the end of a consultation exercise and the decision has been made to restructure FreeStyleGames to better align the studio resources with future business needs. We are working with the studio teams to explore options to rebalance staff within Activision Blizzard and its related organisations.
The UK remains a key market for Activision Blizzard and FreeStyleGames continues to be a great partner. We thank all of the team for their continued passion, creativity and commitment.

Skylanders, Guitar Hero Live fall short of expectations

Activision usually puts out fiscal quarter press releases stating that they beat expectations and had another great quarter. That was not the case this time. While the company did well overall, things weren't as rosy as usually. It seems the culprits were Skylanders and Guitar Hero Live.

Activision says that Guitar Hero Live and Skylanders Superchargers both fell short of expectations, with Skylanders' weak performance attributed to increased competition in the market. No reasoning for Guitar Hero Live missing target was given.
