Exploring a few of the sights you can see on the Minecraft 10 year anniversary map.

Minecraft hits 176 million units sold worldwide

Oof!

Microsoft has announced that Minecraft has now moved 176 million units across all versions worldwide. There's no doubt the Wii U, 3DS, and Switch versions have done their fair share of contributing to that total, and we're sure many more Switch owners will be checking the game out. The 176 million figure is impressive in and of itself, but even moreso when you realize that just 7 months ago, the game had sold 156 million!

Minecraft community manager asking for Switch players to share feedback on the glitches/issues they're experiencing

Let's get to the bedrock bottom of this

Just the other day, we shared a message from Minecraft's community manager about the Switch version. The team is aware that some players are having trouble with freezing/glitches, and they're working to figure out just what's up. It appears the team's internal testing isn't enough to lock down the solution, and they're turning to those currently experiencing problems to share details. Check out the community manager's full post below.

On Friday afternoon we played an internal 1.12 build and a fellow team member joined me on a Xbox One (I was the host). We played for over an hour on creative in a busy village with a lake full of fish nearby. I tried a number of different activities & maintained around 60 FPS the whole time. No crashes, no lag, hurray!

Now, we still have more testing to do but I wanted to give an update. It would really help if anyone who is experiencing issues with performance on Minecraft to comment and let us know the following:

If you’re playing on a cartridge version or all digital version

If you have any mods/resource packs/texture packs installed (and if so, please list)

Approximate number of how many worlds you have saved on your Switch

If you’re playing singleplayer, multiplayer w/you joining another person’s world, multiplayer w/someone else joining your world, or playing on Realms

What is around you and/or what you are doing when you notice the most lag

Anything else you think might be helpful info for us

Thanks so much, everyone! We really appreciate all your help.

If you have any insight, you can share your details in this post.

Minecraft 10th Anniversary savings on Merchandise, Marketplace and More

Happy 10th, Minecraft!

Today’s sale isn’t a small sale. It isn’t even a medium sale. It’s our BIGGEST SALE EVER! This sale includes discounts on Marketplace content, merchandise and Minecraft itself! Here’s your handy guide to all the reductions we’re making to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Minecraft:

MINECRAFT MARKETPLACE

Because it’s our tenth anniversary, all our savings are themed around the number ten. Pretty clever, huh? Pretty great discounts too, as you can get 10% off the top ten Marketplace worlds/mash-up packs and 10% off the top ten Marketplace skin packs! Bet you wish you hadn’t questioned my exclamation mark overload in paragraph one now, don’t you? This ten-themed sale is officially underway!

MINECRAFT MERCHANDISE

Everything at MinecraftShop.com has a 25% discount! After all, what better way to celebrate our 25th anniversary, than with... hang on… *checks notes* woops, out by 15 years. Oh well, have 25% off everything anyway, from today until May 24! There’s some brilliant merchandise reduced, so I’m going to let it slide that this is 15% too high for the ten-themed sale I’m trying to promote here…

MINECRAFT

Never played Minecraft? It’s pretty good! It’s got coarse dirt and Creepers and a cool dragon and a crazy discount of up to 50% off! What better way to celebrate our 50th anniversary? I mean, 25th anniversa– No, wait, 10th anniversary! ARGH

You can get up to 50% off Minecraft on Windows 10, Java, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Well, looks like the sale wasn’t so ten-themed after all, and that the discounts were actually a lot bigger. I feel quite the fool, but at least you get to enjoy an even bigger sale. At the end of the day, what’s more important to you – my self-esteem or you getting up to 50% off Minecraft?

Don’t answer that, and enjoy the sale!

Minecraft's freezing/glitching/lock-up/loading issues on Switch are being looked into, Mojang considers these bugs 'high priority'

Oof

The most recent update to Minecraft on Switch has unfortunately created a host of issues. Players are complaining of the game locking up, freezing, and glitching out. The game also seems to take a long time to load. The thing is, not all players are experiencing these issues. Those who are can rest easy, as Minecraft's community manager has promised that the errors are being looked into.

We actually have engineers dedicated to trying to get to the bottom of this. I also can’t reproduce it personally but other folks in the studio can, thankfully. Yes, these are high priority bugs for us.
