Square-Enix grabs a new trademark for The World Ends with You

I can't stand the teasing!

It certainly seems like something is going on with The World Ends With You. First we had the Anime Expo Lite promo art that featured The World Ends With You, and now we have a new trademark registration.

Over in Japan, Square-Enix has grabbed a new trademark for The World Ends With You back on June 1st, 2020, and it just went live today. We still don't know what exactly it's related to, but many are hoping it's a new installment in the series. With ties to the Anime Expo Lite, perhaps we'll be seeing some sort of animated adaptation.

Anime Expo Lite kicks off July 3rd, 2020, so we'll likely find out what this is all about then.

Anime Expo Lite promo art features The World Ends With You, fueling speculation of the series' return

Are we finally going to get a true sequel?

While Anime Expo 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic, The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation has announced Anime Expo Lite, a two-day live-stream event taking place July 3rd and 4th, 2020. The official promo art for the event can be seen above, and it features The World Ends With You.

No explanation of the art has been shared, but it is indeed an official collaboration with Square-Enix. It would be extremely odd to feature the series in promo art if special news wasn't coming. Be it an anime adaptation, new game, or something else completely, it does seem like The World Ends With You fans will have something new to look forward to in the near future.
