Virtuos says bringing Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age to Switch has been 'quite technically challenging'

Virtuos is handling the ports of Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age to Switch. They've certainly handled their fair share of Switch ports, but taking on Final Fantasy is of a higher caliber. In an interview with Nintendo Life, Virtuous discusses their time bringing the games over to Switch.

I would say it was quite technically challenging because to make Final Fantasy work on Switch, we needed to convert it to 64GB. So, the Switch version needed to be shrunk without impacting the performance. As this requires a fair amount of skill, we have a small team specifically to target these parts of the remaster.

Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster's physical release in North America includes X-2 HD as a download code

Well, well, well...it looks like the situation here in the states is the same as in Europe. Square-Enix has confirmed that the retail version of Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster here in North America will include a game card with Final Fantasy X HD on the card, but Final Fantasy X-2 HD is going to be a download code.

“Important information: FINAL FANTASY X HD Remaster available on game card. FINAL FANTASY X-2 HD Remaster game content is download only. Single-use voucher included. Internet connection required. microSD card may be required.”

This news means that only copies in Japan and Southeast Asia will include both games on a single game card. No word on why the decision was made to split the games in NA/EU.
