Helvetii is a 2D action roguelite game, revolving on exploring the ancient mythology and history of the gaulish Helvetii tribes as well as celtic and other mythos from various cultures, and adapting them in a challenging, fast-paced modern action game with a beautiful art style, inspired by Vanillaware titles such as Muramasa Rebirth and Odin Sphere Leiftrasir, as well as titles like Binding of Isaac.
During the development of Splash Blast Panic back in the second half of 2016, Kevin Peclet (Designer, Artist) started on the project and started to research behind Gaulish and in particular Helvetian myth. The main base for the mythos is taken from "La mythologie de la Suisse Ancienne" (R. Christinger and W. Borgeaud), as well as "L'an -58, les Helvetes" (G. Kaenel), "La Saga des Helvetes" by Pierre Lartigue and other research on celtic, burgondes and germanic mythology. In addition, he also looked at the swiss myth in a broader sense to include iconic creatures such as the Tschaeggaetaes or the Tatzelwurm. He studied and adapted each piece of lore and story for the game's style, hand painted and animated. His designs are somewhat reimagined to mix how they are traditionally perceived with a more modern take. Since then, the project has been joined by Garrett Brown (Senior Combat Designer and Programmer) and Elias Farhan (Programmer and Producer).
