SEGA AGES Fantasy Zone and Shinobi Deliver Pulse-Pounding Action Starting Today

The next double dose of SEGA classics are here!

Good news: you won't need to lug around a 300-pound arcade cabinet to play your favorite arcade titles on the go because Shinobi and Fantasy Zone are now available as part of the SEGA AGES line-up for the Nintendo Switch! Check out our launch trailer to find out more.

Prepare to dispatch the hordes of evil in Shinobi with style thanks to a wealth of quality-of-life additions, including an AGES mode that gives the master ninja extra health and damage, difficulty level and stage select options, a rewind time feature, and a unique Cabinet display mode that replicates the look and feel of playing in an actual arcade.

Or you can take control of that cute, egg-shaped ship Opa-Opa in the bright pastel world of Fantasy Zone. Don't be fooled by the colorful aesthetics, though - Fantasy Zone is known for its difficulty. Fortunately, this SEGA AGES release includes a very useful Coin Stock option to assist shoot-em-up newcomers, along with a Time Attack mode for a bonus challenge, extra bosses, and the ability to play as Opa-Opa's brother, Upa-Upa!

About Shinobi

Ninjutsu master Joe Musashi returns in this classic side-scrolling platformer. He has been sent on a mission to single-handedly find and rescue all the children of the Oboro clan who have been kidnapped by a criminal syndicate known as ZEED. Utilize your sharp sword, shurikens, throwing knives, and even magic to defeat the enemy and free the hostages.

About Fantasy Zone

A pioneer of the "cute 'em up" genre, Fantasy Zone tells a surprisingly bleak tale about the mighty space warrior Opa-Opa's journey for revenge in a pastel-colored world. Defeat enemies to collect coins and power up Opa-Opa in order to rescue the world of Fantasy Zone in this exciting classic!

Shinobi and Fantasy Zone are now available individually on the Nintendo Switch eShop in the Americas and Europe for $7.99 (with commensurate European pricing). For more information, visit the official website at http://segaages.sega.com/.

Full details and new screens revealed for SEGA AGES: Shinobi

Ninja news

SEGA AGES: Shinobi is coming to Switch "soon," according to SEGA. While we wait for a release date, SEGA has released full details on the game and its updates, alongside new screens. Check out the screens here, and read up on the details below.

■ Additional Options Unique to Sega Ages

The Sega Ages version of Shinobi also includes the western version of the game. Additionally, difficulty settings and the ability to select your favorite stages have also been implemented, allowing you to practice the stages you have trouble with.

Furthermore, for players aiming for the “Shinobi Bonus” obtained by clearing the stage without using any shuriken, the “Melee Attack” button can also be added. “HD Rumble” is also supported.

“Screen Mode” has also been updated. In addition to the familiar “Fit” and “Vintage” options, a new “Cabinet” option has been implemented. This option even reproduces the noise of the arcade, so you can get a sense of what playing at a game center feels like.

■ Modes

Arcade Mode

A mode that reproduces the original arcade version. Depending on the settings, you can also use the Sega Ages-original feature “Rewind” to practice. (This is similar to the “Helper” feature in Sega Ages Gain Ground.)

Ages Mode

This is a special mode for players who find Arcade Mode too difficult to be able to enjoy the game. In this mode, you control white-robed Joe Musashi from The Revenge of Shinobi. White-robed Musashi is in a constant powered-up state with high attack power, and it takes two hits to kill him instead of one. The Rewind feature can also be used in this mode.

■ Other

Other familiar Sega Ages features such as “Leaderboards” to compete for the high score against other players online in the arcade version, and a “Replay” feature have also been implemented.

SEGA AGES: Shinobi seeing release soon

While it was previously announced as coming to Switch, it seems that the next SEGA AGES title will be SEGA AGES: Shinobi. We don't have an exact release date, but it is apparently coming soon. There are plenty of SEGA AGES games in the works, but Shinobi should be the next slated for launch.
