Best Friend Forever launches on Aug. 27th, 2020, new trailer shared

Train the goodest dog

Starcolt’s Best Friend Forever, the game about dog-care and dating (not at the same time) is due for release August 27th on PC and Nintendo Switch — and the dev team are teasing a gameplay trailer that will finally show what to expect from the dog-care aspect of the hybrid sim.

Up until now, players and media have only been able to access the first ‘chapter’ of the game, which focuses on the player moving to Rainbow Bay and setting up a new apartment (and adopting a dog!). The new trailer, released just 20 days before the launch, fills in the gaps on how players interact, train, and care for their adopted dogs.

About Best Friend Forever

Step off the bus at Rainbow Bay and start a new life with your furever friend! Adopt a dog, find true love and experience all the wacky hijinks this colourful city has to offer.

Best Friend Forever is the world’s first simulation game to combine pet care and dating (just not necessarily at the same time). Train, pat and play with your very own dog to form a bond that will last the ages. With your four-legged companion by your side, meet, woo and cherish the many cuties of Rainbow Bay’s thriving singles scene.
Fall in love with a diverse cast of local singles.
Spend quality time with your dog to raise its stats and pass Paws Academy.

Experience modern love at its finest! Be whoever you want, love whoever you want.

Best Friend Forever now launching on Aug. 27th, 2020

That's what's pup

Only a few days ago, the dev team behind Best Friend Forever said the game was being delayed yet again, and wouldn't make its June 18th, 2020 release. This was because of complications from the pandemic. The team also said they didn't expect for the delay to be too long.

Here we are just a few days later, and the new release date has been locked in. The dev team now says that the title will launch on Aug. 27th, 2020. Hopefully the day sticks this time!

Best Friend Forever delayed due to the pandemic

Best Friend Forever was originally slated to hit Switch on June 18th, 2020, but that's no longer happening. The dev team has announced that the game has been pushed back due to the impact of the pandemic. Check out the team's full note on the delay below.

What a year 2020 was, and it’s only June! In these unprecedented times, game development (like many other industries) is going through a wave of unknowns in response to COVID, ones which we have been working as hard as we possibly can to deal with and deliver you a game full of Dogs and Dates. The team has been working so diligently despite all these challenges, and has never once stopped giving the game their love and attention – for that, and all the other care they’ve given this project, I’m super proud of them.

The unfortunate news is that due to circumstances outside our control, we have to delay the release of Best Friend Forever slightly further – this shouldn’t be for too long, but we don’t want to give you a date until we’re certain it’s the final, 100% certain date because we want to give you the game as much as you want to play it! Stay tuned for the new date, which will be announced soon through all our social channels and mailing lists.

Best Friend Forever delayed to June 18th, 2020

The development team behind Best Friend Forever have announced that the title is going to miss its original May 14th, 2020 release due to the pandemic. The new date sits at June 18th, 2020, and you can read a full explanation of the situation below.

This has been a very difficult time for everyone, and unsurprisingly as the world is in upheaval, so was our development of Best Friend Forever. Back in March, we protected our staff and those around us by shifting to working from home a week before New Zealand went into lockdown, determined to carry on and meet our release date of May 14.

We’re very sorry to let you know that circumstances beyond our control mean we’re just not able to get this game out on the date we wanted — but it’s not delayed by very long! We are shifting our release date to June 18, 2020.

It’s been a really difficult decision for the team, but in order to make sure we can get all of our t’s crossed and i’s dotted, we think it’s the right one and we hope you’ll bear with us.

Shipping during a pandemic was never going to be easy, and we simply couldn’t have predicted what a global impact this was going to have, not to mention the impact on our psyches and home lives as we all worked from home. We want to thank you for all your support and encouragement you’ve given us so far, and ask you to stick with us a little longer as we get these good pups out the door, awaiting your virtual adoption.

Feel free to comment with any questions and we’ll get back to you — but for now, stay strong, hang in there, and we’ll do our part by delivering the best dog-care and dating-sim hybrid the world has ever seen. Mostly because we’re fairly certain it’s the only one. But it’s also good.

Announcing Best Friend Forever for Switch

People let me tell you bout my best friend

WELLINGTON, NZ. AUGUST 19TH 2019 - Starcolt and Alliance Games announced during today’s Nintendo Indie World livestream, the upcoming release of Best Friend Forever - the world’s first dating and dog management sim hybrid. Best Friend Forever combines classic tend and befriend gameplay with an engaging dating-sim narrative to bring its colourful world to life.

Who let the dogs out?

At Starcolt, we love dogs so much that we’ve made sure Best Friend Forever is jam-packed with a rebarkable variety of fluffy friends; short woofers, long nosies, tall goobers, pomeranians with hats and more.

You'll start your journey by creating your dating profile and adopting one of four special puppers, then you’re free to go on to live your best life. You might even meet somebody who is as equally into binging true crime podcasts until 5 a.m as you, or has one of those really cool custom-made poop bag holders from Instagram.

Pet the dogs, then the owners

Step off the bus at Rainbow Bay to meet a diverse cast of hot single dog owners in your area. Bond with your adopted canine companion as your totally normal human love life grows along with the relationship you share with your New Best Friend. For all kinds of dog lovers and love lovers out there, this game won’t be one to miss.

The team also hopes to build a diverse and inclusive game experience that reflects the studio values. "We're coming at BFF from the angle of being a woman-dominant studio," says Lucy Morris, Studio and Creative Director at Starcolt. "A lot of the creative decisions we make are so we can see more of these varied perspectives and stories in our games."

"Every person on the core team belongs in the LGBTQ+ community, so being inclusive in BFF's design was paramount. We needed to ensure that everyone is able to play the game however they want to. We're also a tiny team, which meant that every developer has had creative input and advice for the varied NPCs and love interests -- they've really become treasured characters, and we can't wait to see how players respond to them!" - Calliope Ryder, Gamerunner
